Balance and Dizziness: V-ENG (video-electronystagmography) The inner ear is responsible for both hearing and balance. Electronystagmography (that's why we call it ENG - it's shorter) is a battery of tests designed to evaluate part of the inner ear balance system, as well as more "central" components that work together to keep you on an even keel.

At the hearing aid evaluation, you and your audiologist will determine which type of hearing aid is best for you and your unique needs, including the style, circuit, and number of hearing aids necessary. This choice should reflect your needs, preferences, and budget, including your lifestyle and activity level, medical conditions, physical characteristics and limitations, cosmetic and style preferences, and financial expectations.

Audiometry is used to check how effective your hearing conservation measures are. It is needed if employees are exposed to high noise levels

Screening audiometry is compulsory for employees exposed to 95dB (daily average exposure) and above, but the majority of tests we do are for employees exposed to noise levels in the 85-95dB range. Typical clients are in the metal, timber, plastics, packaging, glass, textile, paper, printing, raw material and drinks industry. Audiometry is the control mechanism to check the effectiveness of your hearing conservation measures. It is an early warning system, which enables the employer to take steps to reduce future harm. Claims for noise-induced hearing loss are still the most common occupational health (compensation) claim and audiometry will control future claims.

Employees with noise-induced hearing loss are identified, as are any changes which may have occurred since a previous test. Non noise-induced hearing losses are of course also recorded. You receive the audiogram for each employee, with the individual evaluation, as well as a management report. We refer for a medical opinion if required. Each employee receives a written explanation.

We are in addition, able to offer full diagnostic hearing tests as well, including bone conduction, speech audiometry and tympanometry and hearing aid fitting, if required.

Middle Ear Implant Diagnostics and Management ( implantable hearing device )This device is designed for mild to moderately severe sensory hearing loss. One part of the device (a magnet) is surgically implanted in the ear, and the other part is a removable processor that is placed in the ear canal. This device is useful for people who are unhappy with regular hearing aid use due to occlusion effect and feedback.

A small probe like an earplug is placed into the ear canal, and a series of tones is presented to the ear. The probe records the response from the hair cells of the inner ear to these tones to give an indication as to hair cell function.

A small tube attached to a microphone is inserted into the ear along with the hearing aid, and the output of the aid, as modified by the ear canal, can be measured to assure adequate amplification when setting or programming the aid.

Many people experience ringing or other noise in the ear or head. We will evaluate the nature of this noise, make appropriate medical referrals, and discuss possibilities in management, such as tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT).

Tympanometry We offer tympanometric screening for middle ear disorders, such as middle ear fluid (serous otitis media) and otosclerosis.
